MFS Lifetime Funds to replace current Vanguard Funds

As an employer, the Archdiocese of Indianapolis is committed to helping employees achieve their retirement savings goals. After a thorough process of evaluating target-date retirement funds with the assistance of financial advisors, the Archdiocese has selected MFS Lifetime Funds to replace the current Vanguard Funds effective December 1, 2017.

If you save in a Vanguard target-date retirement fund, your account will automatically be transferred to the equivalent MFS Lifetime target-date retirement fund. For example, if you are saving in the Vanguard 2025 Fund, your account will automatically be transferred to the MFS Lifetime 2025 Fund on December 1, 2017. There is no action that you need to take.

MFS was chosen as our target-date retirement fund provider for several reasons:

  • Their investment strategy emphasizes growth in the early years of a career and lower volatility in later years. This strategy addresses the evolving risk tolerance of employees over their careers.
  • MFS has had stability and continuity among their investment managers.
  • MFS has a disciplined approach to managing risk and maintaining their stated asset allocation levels with relatively low variance from their investment “glide path”.
